Was experiencing operating problems with computer and
tried to reload window xp and partway through the process
received message saying boot files not found, load disk
and press any key to continue. My computer restarts on
its own when I try to shut it down so I have to use power
switch on back to get computer shut off. Where do I start?

When it asks, do it, put in the boot disk! If you don't
have one (or didn't make one), borrow one from one of
your savvy friends that are running WinXP. That means XP
only not 98 or 95. That will warn you the next time when
installing WinXP and it ask if you want to create a boot
disk, to answer "Yes". You can even put it on a CD using
CD-ROM support to boot. Go to below website for lots of
info to help you: Repair XP

So you are saying you couldn't reinstall Windows or were able to reinstal
but now you can't shut down without hitting the powerswithch? Impossible to
tell what you mean and what you need from the way you worded your post.
