Boot failure

After I tried to uninstall several junk programs Windows XP failed to boot returning the following message " could not locate \windows\system32\config\system file or folder. You should use your original CD and choose R for recover". This version of windows does not support a wizard based recovery utility and prompts me in comand recovery console where I dont know what to do.
After that I used a second hard drive and installed a clean version of XP and set the second drive as secondary in order to copy my files, but unfortunately my documents and settings folder has no access....
Any idea on the no access message or how to over come the first message that \windows\system32\config\system is fixed??
By the way I cannot use the F8 and safe mode option.
Thanks

Hi Will
Thanks for your immediate response
If I try to use the F8 function I get to the menu with the options of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Network support etc. but still when I press Safe Mode I get the same message that the file \windows\system32\config\system is missing and cannot continue

The version of XP is XP Home GREEK version and the CD I got is XP preinstalled by an OEM provider InfoQuest. The CD gives you the option to reinstall XP and to use the Recovery console, but in the recovery console I cannot copy files from the CD direct to the windows folder

Hi

If you have an OEM version of XP, you will only be able to perform a 'clean' install. May I suggest that you contact the company that you got your OEM version of XP from for further help - InfoQuest in this case. Any further problems please post back.
