I have an older machine and I need to update the BIOS which brings me to my
question. How do you create a boot disk under Windows XP ? There isn't any
DOS to go to and the old command Format a:/s isn't valid anymore.

Hi,

Right-click the A drive in Windows Explorer, choose 'format'. There is an
option to create a dos boot disk.

Rick, I see the option to create a MS Startup disk but not a Dos Boot disk.
I don't think they are the same thing.

.
Right Click on A DRIVE >Format>Create an MS-DOS Startup Disk
with regards,
ssg
pronetworks.org

1. Put in floppy disk you want to erase.
2. Open Windows Explorer (My Computer).
3. Right-Click on the "3½ Floppy (A:)" drive.
4. Select "Format".
5. File System: FAT
6. Select "Create an MS-DOS startup disk"
7. Click on the Start button.

Important: DO NOT select the quick format check box as the FULL FORMAT
checks the disk for errors. Better to know now than when you have badly
flashed your BIOS with it.

For the rest of the steps consult your motherboard manual or contact the
manufacturer as to what additional files may be required to be put on the
floppy and what commands to type in, etc.

If you go to My Computer, right click the drive and take Format, there
is a box for 'MSDOS Startup disk'

This is a minimal disk - boot files and command.com, but if you add the
files for your BIOS flash it will do the job
