Boot Disc Failure

Installed XP and then SP-2 have had no problem untill Sunday.
Turned system on and following error message appeared
"Disk Boot failure, Insert syatem disk & press enter" Turned machine off and
restarted and away it went o/k. When they say insert system disk and enter is
this the original CD or should I have made a small boot disk. If so how can I
do this now.

I don't suppose anyone had left a CD or Floppy in the drive had they?
