Is it possible to make the computer automatically boot up at a specified
time?

Only if the BIOS supports this. Go through the Motherboard manual and you
may find options like "Resume On time", "Wakeup" or similar features.

Are you saying that it can be done only through BIOS and not through the
Task Scheduler?

machine?

No, I did not read your original post carefully enough. Check
out Ramesh's reply - he has the right idea.

The reason why you can not use the Task Scheduler to Boot the PC is that the
Task Scheduler needs XP to be running. If the PC is not booted, then the Task
Scheduler is not running!

I understand that. But I was hoping that something might still be listening
to the system clock, which does keep running.

Yes the BIOS will read the system clock and allow bootup IF that feature
is provided. Late model Dells for instance have this feature.
