Bookmarks for use by other documents

I may have a need to save what I'm calling bookmarks within existing word
documents so that they can be used by other documents (both Word and Excel).
Can this be done? I assume I'd have to save them into a file that's
accessed by all docs somehow.

I suspect that what you are talking about is AutoText. That is saved in

step-by-step instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up
customizations including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments,
toolbars, macros, etc.

What Word calls bookmarks are available in other documents using the Insert
File command.
