Bold in a protected document

I am setting up a template in which I need to protect it to limit the styles
that are used. HOwever, in some instances we will need to bold, underline or
Italicize a particular word in a sentence and not the entire sentence. I
realize by adding the protection commands and keyboard shortcuts are not
available for that style, is there a way around this so that I can emphasize
the words that require special formatting under these circumstances?

Thank you.

I'm told that you can get around this problem by creating character styles
for these font properties (or you can use the built-in Emphasis and Strong
styles for italic and bold) and allowing use of those styles.

I have the same problem. I did select Emphasis and Strong styles as a style
that can be used; however, when you're in the protected document, you can't
find those two styles in the quick drop-down style list from the toolbar, nor
from the styles and formatting menu. Do you know why not, or if I'm doing
something wrong when I protect it for styles?

Ah! Found the answer to my own question on how to access the strong (bold)
and emphasis (italics) character styles in a protected document. On the
formatting toolbar, instead of just clicking on the styles drop-down list,
click on the Shift key and hold it down, then select the dropdown list. All
styles that are available will be listed, including strong and emphasis. (Go
figure!)
