BMP to JPEG or GIF file

I have a problem with my pictures. I have my photos in a BMP file Format,
and Iwant to upload these photos to somegroup. The problem is thegroup is
requesting photos in the JPEG or GIF format, now I'm faced with a dialema, IS
IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE PHOTO TYPE OR NOT? IF SO HOW DO I DO IT?
how can one change picture type eg BMP files to JPEG or GIF?

not sure you are in the right group but: generally jpg if they are photo's
- gif's for graphics.
