Matt

I have XP Home Edition.

When I right click on "Save As" on a .bmp file on the web
and save to my hard drive, it ends up as a small .jpg
file, which the computer then CANNOT recognize.

I absolutely "Save As" .bmp when prompted, but it doesn't
copy as is to the C drive. Help.

It's time to perform some house cleaning chores:

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE , and hit enter.
This will start your disk cleanup utility. Make sure to cleanup
your Temporary Internet Files.

If it doesn't happen at all sites: some webmasters have protected images
from being copied or downloaded. I used to be able to save JPGs from the
internet movie database site. Now when I right click to save them they save
as blank images.
