Dang this is annoying...

I'm experiencing this blue stop screen several times a day at the WORST
possible times. It is VERY annoying and inconvenient. I hope that
someone...anyone can help!

I've researched this problem on the Microsoft website. There is a page
dedicated to it and the resolution for it. According to MS, there is a fix
included in SP2. I've had this blue screen before SP2, and I continue to have
it after I installed the service pack (complete with all upgrades necessary
before installing it).

the error is bugcode_USB_Driver. I haven't been told any way to figure out
what is causing this error.

I have 4 USB devices. A printer, a cable modem, a DVD writer, and an external
hard drive. The DVD writer is new and was installed after this problem was
occuring, so it's not the culprit. The printer is powered down and not being
used, so I ASSUME it is not the reason. That leaves the cable modem and the
hard drive. The crash happens even when I am not accessing the hard drive,
so does that not in fact remove that as a possibility? If so...that leaves
only the cable modem. Is there a way for me to confirm which driver is
causing this stop screen?

Any help in remedying this problem is MUCH appreciated. So far, HP tech
support hasn't been much help.

Uninstall the USB devices and restart.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the device, Action menu,
"Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.

After three tech support calls to HP, I was getting nowhere. I opened a chat
session (for $35!) with a MS tech and he finally suggested that I do just what
you've said. So...I removed all USB devices and reinstalled.

That didn't necessarily solve my problem, but it did in fact lead to
resolution.

My cable modem was originally connected via Ethernet card, but after have some
issues this summer, my ISP connected via a USB adapter. When my computer
restarted and tried to re-install my USB devices, it could not find the driver
for the adapter, so I had to call my ISP. He had left me the wrong drivers
three months ago. So...he came back and re-installed my modem via Ethernet
card and left it off the USB port. So far, no blue screens for three days!

Yea!

And it's a shame that NOT ONE technician at HP could figure that if I was
getting a USB error on my blue screen, that I should remove those devices and
try to re-install them. I was only doing what I was told, but I figured
something like that would eventually remedy the situation.

And that revelation cost me $35.

I certainly sorry to hear that, but I have found my policy of 'two days
unanswered' for posts on these MS boards is the best policy.

I don't think the USB bug in SP2 has been recognized by them yet.

I also found this BSOD, BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER (fe)
USB Driver bugcheck, first parameter is USB bugcheck code.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000002, BAD_URB The USB client driver has submitted a URB that is
still attached to another IRP still pending in the bus
driver.
Arg2: 81173a08, Address of pending IRP.
Arg3: ff954b80, Address of IRP passed in.
Arg4: ffbb0450, Address URB that caused the error.

This happened frequently in WinXP SP1, but still happen with SP2 installed
on some machine.
My device is an ISO Audio device. But if I use Microsoft ISO USB audio
class driver, it has no such problem.
I don't know how to tell Microsoft this problem.

Hello ShanghaiPenglee,

To determine what driver is causing the problem I need you to enable driver
verifier.
Steps:
1) Windows Key + R
2) Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3) Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4) Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5) Reboot

There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this
occurs hit F8 when rebooting just before the windows logo screen and select
the safe mode boot option. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose
'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any
driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.

This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but
will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash
the blue screen will hopefully say something like
"DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the
corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.
If you have any questions or I didn't explain something well enough don't
hesitate to e-mail me back. Good Luck,
