I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop, relatively new one with Win XP Pro w/ SP2.

At the shut down, at the very last step where it is indicating to save the
settings... it is crashing with a BLU SCREEN. I tried to fix
(reinstall/upgrade the WinXP). Also tried all of the Spyware scanning and
fixing software... NOTHING. It is still there.

Can somebody help me what else I should be doing?

Thank you in advance.

Usually a driver problem.

Windows XP Restarts When You Try to Shut Down Your Computer

I suggest you Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should
help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Enable automatic restart on system failure after you have captured /
copied and pasted the message in a further post here.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Although the computer is fairly new, last time I had a problem like this one
I had to download a newer version of the BIOS. Check Dells site to see if
there is an updated BIOS version for your computer.

Here are the specifications you've asked to be posted. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :
(By the way, I have up-to-date BIOS, and have changed the recovery setting
to not start...)

Go to the Control Panel/System applet/Advanced tab and click startup and
recovery settings. In the recovery section, change the dump to a small
memory dump rather than the full kernel. Apply the new settings, then reboot
the system and force a new error dump to be written (this time it will
create a mini***.dmp file. Send the file to me at the address used here
([email protected]) using the subject line of "per req". There may be some
detail in there that will help me isolate exactly which driver file is
causing the issue (yes, it's a driver file not terminating properly).

Have you recently made any software changes involving your CD Rom / DVD?

Have you recently downloaded something like this?
http://www.download.com/Daemon-Tools/3000-7970_4-10376892.html

Are you by any chance German speaking? I ask because an abnormally high
proportion of reports referring to your problem are written in German.
