I'm working on a computer with XP Pro, on bootup it stops and gives me
the following error, saying windows has shut down and to check for any
hardare or software additions, etc.

Nothing was added to this machine, though it did weather some heavy
lightning in our area, so it might have gotten surged.. none of the
other 50 machines were affected however...

anyway the error message says simply: Unmountable_Boot_Volume

I tried booting up to safe mode, and all other modes offered, including
last good configuration.. always it brought me back to the same blue
screen error stated above.

I am currently running the diagnostic program from booting up to the
utility partition..

any other suggestions? Could it be as simple as a fried hard drive?
The HD does spin up on bootup, but that's about all I can say about it
at this point.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, and thanks.

not sure why, but I think of posting here first.... I'll try to
remember google next time...

this did work for me though, guess it was a corrupt file system, and
once I "stumbled" into the Recovery Console I was able to get it
done..

System is back up and running now,

thanks!!
