Problem Summary:
First Cold Boot ends up in a BSOD (BAD_POOL_HEADER).
Rebooting usually (not always) lands the Desktop safely. Sometimes I work
fine for a whole day: at times there occurs 1 or 2 more BlueScreens
(Bad_POOL_HEADER or Win32k sys). Lately, on rebooting a message announces
that my Active Desktop has been disabled. My Desktop has no Web page active,
not even a Wallpaper. Desktop Icons are Hidden.

Another possible clue(?) is that when I Right Click a File and try to enter
comments in the Summary Tab, then Click OK, immediately puts the System in
the BSOD.

Appreciate your help on this one: ofcourse, glad to submit
further details I may have omitted. Thanks

Twanny,
I see you have updated your P-III by installing Windows XP Pro (SP2).
Did you check with the computer manufacturer which upgrades you should make
on the computer before upgrading?
I have a Dell Dimension 8100 originally equipped with Windows ME. I
upgraded to Windows XP after obtaining XP drivers for all my external
hardware.
Initially I was plagued with BlueScreen Failures. On advice from Dell I had
to Flash my BIOS, but the problem persisted. Eventually I discovered that I
had not loaded a required "Chip Set" driver, once this was in place my
problems ceased. My point is, the computer may need updating.

Thanks Clive for taking the time to reply.
When you say Chip Set Driver, do you mean on the MainBoard? If that is the
case, then I have to replace the MBO as mine no longer offers support. All
the other Drivers were accepted by XP on formating and installation.

Hi Twanny,

As previously these kinds of crashes are quite often driver related. To
determine what driver is causing the problem I need you to enable driver
verifier.
Steps:
1) Windows Key + R
2) Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3) Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4) Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5) Reboot

There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this
occurs hit F8 when rebooting just before the windows logo screen and select
the safe mode boot option. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose
'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any
driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.

This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but
will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash
the blue screen will hopefully say something like
"DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the
corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.
If you have any questions or I didn't explain something well enough don't
hesitate to e-mail me back. Good Luck,

Hi

You need to remove the "online." part from the e-mail address...
