Blocking Issue with Windows XP Update

Hello. I've never posted here before but a friend of mine
is having the hardest time updating his Windows 98
computer to Windows XP. He started the update but Norton
would work and he couldn't uninstall Norton. So he went
back to Win 98 and uninstalled Norton. Then when he tried
to upgrade again it gave him a message about a blocking
issue with Microsoft Shared Fax Client. It said he had to
uninstall that for the upgrade to work. But he went into
the Add/Remove Programs list and it's not listed in
there. Has anyone else had this problem and can possibly
help? Thank you so much if you can.

Your friend would be *much* better served by doing a clean install of windows
xp.. if you install over 98 you have the potential for many many problems.
 
Was using Microsoft Fax Console V 5.1 on windows XP home edition but after
installing service pack 2 incoming faxes are received but do not appear in
the inbox folder but if you exit the fax console and reenter they will appear.

Any ideas on a repair.
