Set a message rule (Tools-Message Rules-Mail-New); selecting condition
"Where the From Line Contains People" and action "Do Not Download It From
Server". Outlook Expresses filtering rules are limited. Another solution
would be to use a program like MailWasher (
http://www.mailwasher.net/) a
free proggie that acts as a front end to your email client.
With MailWasher, you download the headers (subject lines, from, to, etc) and
use Allowed Lists, Blocked Lists, as well as precompiled realtime SPAM lists
to filter your email before it is downloaded. Once you are happy with the
messages on your server, MailWasher will launch your email client (OE) for
you to download the messages. MailWasher is well worth the short download
time.
Another option is to take advantage of your ISPs filtering rules.
Earthlink, for example, has SpamBlocker to which you can add names to block
the email before you ever connect to retrieve your messages.
Finally, a third option is to use an entirely different email client that
can connect to the server to retrieve only headers, the list of which you
selectively choose which ones to download and which ones to delete directly
off the server. My favorite here is PocoMail (
http://www.pocomail.com/).
It is shareware but the cost is only $35 and is well-worth it for a
full-featured email client with powerful scripting, filtering and immunity
to HTML scripting and most exploits that dog OE.
