I am using WindowsXP Home and would like to set up the
computer to NOT allow one of the users Internet Access.

The other users would have access.

Is this available? Thanks

Andrew

Can you give us more details? How the machines are
configured and what software and hardware have you
attempted to get these machines connected would be a big
help.

The computers are independent terminals. Four USERS set
up on the terminals. (All running WindowsXP Home)

DSL Router feeds Network (Internet) service to computers.
No password needed for the router or internet connection,
as this is set up with the Router.

I need to permission one of the USER accounts to either
eliminate MS Explorer access OR prohibit a network
connection.

I see no area in MSXP Home to 'permission' computer
configuration settings.

Hope this is enough information...

The idea of prohibiting them to use a network connection
also makes me think that you want to prevent file and
printer sharing along with a Internet connection. If this
is the case, why don't you do without the network. If you
want to control file sharing, XP Home isn't what you
want. It only has simple file sharing meaning everyone
can access it a shared disk or folder over a LAN.

If it was me, I wouldn't totally disconnect the user from
the Internet. I'm not sure your reasoning of prohibiting
a user to use a MS Explorer (assuming you are referring
to Internet Explorer). You can uninstall Internet
Explorer by going to Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove
Windows Components and uncheck Internet Explorer.

If you want to control file sharing, you'll want to
upgrade to XP Pro. It has two methods of file sharing:
Simple File Sharing and Access Control List (ACL).

We have entire discussions going on about the reverse problem. It appears that only adminstrator accounts can use DSL (at least SBC Yahoo DSL). Give someone the limited type of user account and they will not be able to use the Connection Manager (try it). If your limited user is able to use the Connection Manager and therefore SBC Yahoo DSL, there are many of us who would like to be ABLE to do this but can't (perhaps an XP Home Edition version/update issue).
