I just want to go on record to give my opinion of
this "always block" garbage that has apparently recently
been incorporated into the full version of outlook. I'M
SORRY MICROSOFT, I DO NOT NEED YOU TO PROTECT ME FROM
MYSELF, I WILL BE DITCHING YOUR PROGRAM JUST AS SOON AS I
CAN BECAUSE I WILL NOT HAVE YOU OR ANYONE ELSE TELL ME
WHAT KIND OF ATTACHMENTS I'M ALLOWED TO HAVE ON MY EMAIL.

I AM NOT YOUR TYPICAL BRAINLESS IGNORAMOUS COMPUTER USER
THAT BRAINLESSLY OPENS UP EVERY ATTACHMENT. I WANT, NO
DEMAND, THE ABILITY TO CONTROL WHAT HAPPENS ON SOFTWARE
THAT I HAVE PAID GOOD MONEY FOR!

I HAVE A GOOD FIREWALL HARDWARE & SOFTWARE AND A GOOD
ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM, IF I WANT TO RECEIVE .EXE FILES ON MY
EMAILS THEN I DEMAND THE RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO DO SO. YOU
CAN BE ASSURED THAT IF THERE WAS ANOTHER GAME IN TOWN I'D
DITCH YOUR GARBAGE AND BUY SOMETHING THAT LETS ME CONTROL
WHAT HAPPENS ON MY OWN SYSTEM.

....HMMMM LINUX IS LOOKING BETTER ALL THE TIME. BLOW THIS
STUFF OUT YOUR FIGURATIVE BEHINDS, NOT THAT I THINK
ANYONE WILL EVEN READ THIS BUT ANYONE THAT DOES NEEDS TO
COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS KIND OF TREATMENT. WHERE IS MY
ATTORNEY GENERAL WHEN THEY SHOULD BE STOPPING THIS STUFF,
EVEN BETTER WHERE IS THE ACLU, HOW DARE YOU DECIDE WHAT
HAPPENS ON MY COMPUTER.

Hmmm, I can't find a question in your post. Also note that this is a peer
support forum and it's unlikely that an MS employee will see it, and even if
they do, they won't be able to help you.

If instead of ranting you'd like help with your problem, post more details,
including your version and SP level of Outlook.

Yes you are. Otherwise, why is it that your are too stupid to realize that
posting in all uppercase is considered screaming? Do you actually use all
uppercase in every document that you compose? Didn't think so.

And, yes, you are ignorant because instead of using the feedback page at
Microsoft's web site to notify them of your displeasure regarding the
default behavior of their product you instead rant in a newsgroup manned by
volunteers. Microsoft doesn't provide you with free tech support. They do
provide for publicly accessible news servers where peers can help each
other. You sound like the fool yelling at the volunteers piling up the sand
bags about why the state didn't build high enough levees. Don't tell us.
We're users just like you. Go rant where it might make a difference.

Rather than ask for help, you rant. Did you actually ever consider asking
for help on how to circumvent the default attachment behavior? Didn't think
so. Head over to www.slipstick.com for help on how to specify which
filetypes should not be considered Level1 filetypes. And maybe you should
look for the Attachment Options utility that makes it really easy to
configure what filetypes will get blocked or not.

But then I suspect you won't really be back here until your next rant. You
really didn't want help, did you?

I totally agree. However, the problem is not that
microsft's software is no good. The problem is that you
loose control of what settings you want, and microsoft
doesn't tell you how to change them.

Anyways, there is a way arround this:

1. Run the registry editor, C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe
2. Find the folder
HKEY_CURRENTUSER/Software/Microsoft/Office/11.0/Outlook/Se
curity. The number 11.0 is the current version of Outlook
(2003), previous version will have other numbers like
10.0. Use the latest version.
3. Add a new string value called "Level1Remove". Do so by
right clicking on the right pane and choose new->string
value.
4. Set the value (just double click on the icon you just
created) to the extensions you want to unblock. For
example if you want to unblock the .exe and the .com you
set the value to ".exe;.com;"

I hope this relieves your frustation.

PS Somewhere in the help file ther is a list of all the
blocked extensions, use this list to unblock all the
extensions that are blocked by default. This list is
called Level 1 extensions or something similar to that.
