I noticed the "block wan request" on my old linksys router was set for
enabled. Why would I want that to be enabled? What would be the difference
if I change it to disabled?

Thank you!!!!

that is essentially the firewall. When enabled, it will drop any TCP
requests and ICMP packets

From a Linksys BEFSR41 manual:

By enabling the Block WAN Request feature, you can prevent your network
from being pinged, or detected, by other Internet users. The Block WAN
Request feature also adds another measure of security to your network by
hiding your network ports. Both functions of the Block WAN Request feature
make it more difficult for outside users to work their way into your
network.

Thanks guys. Is this "block wan request" why I am having to forward ports
for my games? If I set it for disable then, shouldn't I be able to start a
server for my games without forwarding the ports? The thinking is that
setting it for "disable" is essentially turning off the router firewall.

Time to visit the Linkysys support and forums.

No, time to post a different thread with a different subject. Just ignore it
when I repost. Thanks.
