Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to block .net account in Messenger 4.7 ?
The exchange connection must stay available. Is it possible to change it in
the register ? If possible I want to set the setting in the group policie.

Servers : Windows 2000 Server
Clients : Windows XP Pro

Thx

Mark

Greetings Mark,

Are you sure you're using 4.7? I don't believe there ever was an Exchange version of 4.7
that actually connects to the public .NET Messenger network.

Regardless, See here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=264472

More specifically the "ExchangeConn" key (these are DWORD's), although you may find the
others handy.

Jonathan,

You are right, I've checked a computer with the 4.7 version. The other
computers are using 5.0.0482 Dutch version. Any sollution for that version ?
Or is it possible in some way to block installation of new versions of
messenger ?

Thx

Hi Jonathan,

I've tested with Messenger 4.7 and 5 and is working. However there are some
clients with 6.0 and 6.2 and for those clients it aint working. Do you have
any other sugestions ?

Thx in advance

Hi Mark,

MSN Messenger does not have any GPO restrictions, including this one (and it doesn't have
exchange support anyway).

You have to use Windows to block it down, or block the Messenger servers (*.msgr.hotmail.com)
at some point in your network.

Jonathan,

It works fine but do you know where I can find an example of a ADM file to
put it into the policies ? Or can you tell me what I have to put in the adm ?

Thx,

Mark

Jonathan,

This is a ADM file I tried to make. Do you know what I forgot ?

CLASS MACHINE

CATEGORY Messenger
KEYNAME "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MessengerService\Policies"
POLICY "Messenger Blokkeren"
VALUENAME "ExchangeConn"
VALUEON 2
VALUEOFF 0
END POLICY
END CATEGORY

Thx,
Mark
