I have a Windows XP Pro system that when it is turned on,
It come up and instead of seeing the login screen , the
screen is either black, or is green color of desktop, but
no icons or words. HAve gone into safe ode, and disabled
all boxes in the msconfig, startup section, with nothing
seemign to help..

You should go review the Event Viewer logs for errors. Boot up in Safe Mode
and then right-click on My Computer and select Manage. On the left-hand
side, click on the + in front of Event Viewer to expand. Click on System
and then on the right, review the errors generated. Notice the timestamp
column and the errors that occurred while the computer was operating in
normal mode. It is normal for several errors to occur while in Safe Mode.
Double click on each error and look at the Event ID and Source. Post the
details here so that I can review them.
