black TIFF previews

When I go to open a graphics file from Explorer (Photoshop
not open yet), I click once on the file for a small
preview. The jpegs show a good, clear preview but the
tiffs are all black.
Anyone have any idea why???

Here there is a patch to correct that issue:

(I realize that Photosuite is different than Photoshop but I do believe the
patch should work nonetheless)
