I removed a couple of Symantec products from a computer - from the registry -
backed up registry before I removed items.- Windows XP - it seemed to work
fine until I rebooted - it now comes up to a black screen - requiring a
Windows CD. I can't even go to a command prompt to restore to the last
version of the registry.

I don't have a Windows CD- Is there a place I can download a boot disk or
something. Please help - desperate.

Boot disks:

I ditched Symantec yonks ago, 8 months after purchase, was always
having problems, once SymNRT removal tool wouldn't even remove their
own corrupt file, I ended up reformatting and ditching Symantec
NIS2005 and went to AVG.

You have probably removed a shared file. the only hope I think is to
try a system restore, by clicking Start/ Clicking System restore in
Pick a task.

Another thing you may try is running a Check disk, normally you can
click on C drive properties and go from there, or try a system
restore, by clicking Start/ Clicking System restore in Pick a task.

But the above is pointless if it's not booting, so try doing the above
in safe mode, reboot tapping F8 until the screen comes up. If this
doesn' t work then it's either a repair install or a complete
install, in which case you will need the os disc and all the mobo
drivers.

You can make a boot disk from a computer with a floppy drive, click to
format and select MS DOS start up disc, but I feel this isn't going to
help any.

Whether this is the correct advice I will let you and other's decide,
I would ditch Symantec for sure.

I did a little research on how to fix this and MS website #307545 how to
recover from corrupted registry that prevents windows xp from starting. It
worked fine for me - it had me do a recovery to get to a command prompt and
copy files and delete files and so on - anyways - i was able to get the
computer to boot up - but now it wants me to activate windows again and I
click to activate it now and the activate box comes up but it is a blue
screen and it just sits there - it does have 2 little squares in both upper
corners. I don't know if there is a work around activating it or what to do
next - I can boot up in safe mode but when I go to normal mode and I click on
the user it states it needs to be activated and if I click later it logs me
off. any suggestions??????

please!!!

thanks

One should always own/have the Windows CD for the OS you are using.
