Black screen on Startup: Computer works fine otherwise

In order to upgrade my video driver, I uninstalled the old one first.
Unfortunately, now I don't get any video at all. (I can still make the
computer make sounds with the keyboard, and it shuts down normally, so
there's no crash.) I've tried Safe Mode, and VGA mode, but I get the same
results.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

"...now I don't get any video at all"

Does that mean you don't see anything at all - screen is totally black no
matter what you do?

Yes, the screen is completely black. Unless I start in safe mode, in which
case the screen continues to show the list of drivers loaded.

"Unless I start in safe mode, in which case the screen continues to show the
list of drivers loaded."

Safe Mode is a stripped down, bare bones version of Windows with just the
essential guts of the operating system running. When you are in Safe Mode,
you can see the desktop and the words Safe Mode in each of the 4 corners.

Can you get into Safe Mode?

No, I can't get into safe mode. Like I said, the screen only continues to
show the list of drivers loaded, and doesn't progress beyond that. However,
I can still shut down safely using the power button, so the whole computer
hasn't crashed.
