black screen desktop

Half of the screen is black half shows the picture on desktop. Tried to go
to system restore and could not remember what to turn off in Norton
AntiVirus.only thing I have done is run updates from Windows Update, after
not being able to use internet for a couple of months due to moving. can
sombody please help?
