Black screen at XP startup

John

I have a pentium III 500 Mhz IBM with an integrated S3
video chip.
I have XP Pro loaded and it has run great in the past.

I have tried many different routes to have the system
running but nothing
too advanced. It starts fine, goes through the IBM
startup sequence, then
the XP screen comes up and starts loading, then the screen
goes black and
you hear the startup music but nothing appears on the
screen, therefore my
assumption is that the operating system is still good
running properly and
that it is a configuration issue.

The screen works and all the connections are good.
The last thing that I plan on trying is clearing the BIOS.

Does anyone have any idea how I could rectify this.

Thanks for your help.

Try booting up in safe mode..keep pressing F8 after the bios has first posted until you see a menu that give you options

If the screen works in safe mode you should go to control panel and uninstall your graphics drivers. Then reboot and let it load up normally. Hopefully then it will boot up into windows and you can install and configure your graphics settings again

If this doesn't work there should be an option to roll your system back to an earlier status from the menu or within safe mode.
