i know this has been asked a ton of times before and it did help me out but
when i read the article about the program and that service pack 2 should fix
it i said to myself "well it didnt" then i read something about a hotfix that
you can obtain and some one said in this news group that if you just provide
the kb # they will waive the fee well i clicked email support and entered my
windows xp number then on the next page it says i am not eligible for free
support. this is the message i got "Products purchased under a Select License
Agreement or Software Assurance Home Use Program are not eligible for
no-charge support." So please tell me how do i get the free support if i am
not able to email them and etc? this black screen is pissing me off and
service pack 2 did nothing to fix it

Hi

I assume you are talking about this hotfix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328934

Note that this hotfix will not install on a WinXP SP2 system, so if you
have SP2 installed, you will need to remove SP2 to get it installed
(and installing SP2 again later on will just overwrite the files again
with the SP2 version of them).

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (843426) and ask for nothing more.

You will need to find the phone number from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS

In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"

For USA, you end up here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31

Use phone number 425-635-3311

You call them. Read the KB article.
