Hello.

I'm trying to chase down a problem with my DVD-ROM drive (separate thread).
I'm looking in "Add or Remove Programs" to see if there is anything
installed that I don't use, which might be causing my problem.

In my "Add or Remove Programs" screen, there are a few programs listed, then
a large black area, then more programs. As I scroll the black area, it
changes to colored vertical stripes. I think it's been doing this since
SP2.

Anyone know about this? Does this mean I have some software that SP2
doesn't like? Or maybe a virus? (No symptoms, but you never know...)

Thanks.

Larry, go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and
try the fix on the right side of line 226.

Hi, there!

I went to the page you posted, but I don't understand the directions. I'm
in REGEDIT and I see the "...Uninstall" directory (branch, whatever you call
it). I don't see anything strange, but there are scores of keys here. Do I
need to examine them individually? Also, I don't understand "DisplayIcon".
That doesn't appear anywhere.

See you.

If you look at each of these, you'll see that some of them
include "DisplayIcon." Scan all of them, find the one ending in a
negative number and remove the number.

At least that's the way I understand Kelly's instructions. Kelly
is usually hanging around here; Kelly, if you see this, can you
verify that what I said is right, or correct me if it's not?
