I keep trying to get into BIOS but all I get is a page that says Safe Mode,
Safe w/networking, Safe w/ command prompt. HELP!!!! I have used F1 and F10 a
million times and the same thing happens. Any other way in?

Try pressing your Delete key repeatedly when booting
up. I'm using Win XP Home and the delete key enables
me to enter BIOS setup mode.

Good luck.

Don't know how you got to Safe mode with F1 or F10. F8 gets you there.

Delete or F2 could be your answer... or you're not hitting the key quick
enough after the POST beep.

The POST beep occurs after POST has completed and control
of the computer has been transferred to the boot sector of
the boot drive and the OS. To get into the bios setup screens
when "fast boot" has been invoked is to press down on the bios
setup key (check the motherboard manual for proper key to use)
when turning on the computer and holding the key down until the
bios setup screen appears.

Then read the manual!

DEL Takes me to a language prompt and F2 gives me the safe mode screen again.

What is the make and model of your computer?

When you first power it up, before the Windows XP Startup splash
screen appears, what shows on your monitor - text or a graphic logo?

If it is a graphic logo try using the Esc key to clear the logo and
show the BIOS Power On Self Test details. That information (text)
will usually include a line that tells you how to access the BIOS
Setup.

Help would be located in the manual and if you don't have one download one
from the manufacturers web site.
You haven't given any information that would allow us to give you the exact
information you would get from the manual.

I don"t have the manual but I will down load it. The make and model is Compaq
Presario 5000, rather old. Thank you for your help Michael

Correct. I was responding to two different scenarios and combined both
of them together.

BIOS Setup - prior to POST beep
Windows Configuration Menu - after POST beep

All the replies you've made indicate you're not either/or pressing the
proper key, last key pressed and the hard drive has been accessed for boot.
Entry key into a bios depends on the bios manufacturer of that bios.
Pressing the proper key prior to seeing video on your monitor may be
required.

A Compaq machine will give you a blank screen during the Power On Self
Test. At one point during the P.O.S.T. a blinking cursor will show in
the top right corner of the screen. At that point press the F10 key
to access the BIOS setup.

Good luck
