What if the BIOS isn't Y2K Compliant?Whoa there. Don`t try to upgrade your bios if you don`t know what you are
doing. As JC says, you can obtain an upgrade, if one exists, but your
question, along with the lack of information about your `old system` leads
me to believe that bios flashing would be dangerous for you to do. Drivers
can of course be updated if they exist for your `old one`, but again what
improvement you`d find is debatable. I`d suggest you just tidy up, ie.delete
all the rubbish off your drive empty cookies and temp files, then do a
defrag on your hard drive. Then you`ll see if the old girl goes any better.
best wishes..J

You had to be there, it was like waiting for the nukes to fall in the 60s

Eh?Not necessarily!

Thanks John and others for good advices.John said:Find out the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard as well
as who the manufacturer of your BIOS is. Then go to your motherboard's
manufacturer's website and see if there is a BIOS flash utility and
updates for the BIOS. Should be free. There should also be instructions
for flashing your BIOS there.
NOTE: This is an *extremely* risky operation and you will need to first
go into your BIOS and write down EVERY CURRENT BIOS SETTING down on
paper. *Do not lose that paper* because sometimes flashing your BIOS
will remove those settings and before you start your OS after flashing
the BIOS, you'll need to restore those settings.
As for the motherboard, there should be (free) newer versions of the
drivers at that same website. Installing those should be fairly easy,
and again, there should be instructions there for doing this.
If I missed anything, I hope somebody else will jump in here and cover it.
