how do i get into the bios? i have a hp pavilion pc, and i can only get into
some sort of bios, pressing F1 or F11. is there anyway i can get into the
'real' bios??

also i ran bootvis (it works for me) but it said that 'disk write caching is
disable'. can i enable this? also i had my harddrive replaced under warranty
from PC world, could they have messed up?

please help,

Hi

You can check in the manual for the motherboard - that should show you how
to access the BIOS.

Also you can try pressing the Pause key straight after a reboot and have a
look athe bottom of the screen for a message something like "Press X to
enter setup" - where X is the key to press.
 
There is only one BIOS, the one HP permits you to access.

Enable write caching on the disk:

1. In Windows Explorer, right-click your hard-disk, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the hard disk, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Policies tab.
5. Check "Enable write caching on the disk check box", and then click OK two times.
6. Repeat procedure for each hard disk that is installed in your computer.

there is nowhere for me to check "Enable write caching on the disk check
box". what do i do now??? :-(
 
Is your IDE cable a 40-wire instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable?

Enabling or Disabling the Disk Write Caching

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click Device Manager.
4. Click the plus sign (+) next to the Disk Drives branch to expand it.
5. Right-click the drive on which you want to enable or disable disk write
caching, and then click Properties.\
6. Select the "Policies" tab from the top of the Properties window.
7. Verify the "Enable write caching on the disk" checkbox is checked.
8. Click OK.
9. Close all Windows you opened.
10. Reboot.

If your system doesn't provide this option and the BIOS has no way of
enabling it (see your Manual/Call the technical support) - then it just may
not be possible on your system.
 
hi. thanks for all the help, but when i go to properties it has 2 options:
'optimise for quick removal' or 'optimise for performance'. it is on
'optimise for performance' but there is no option below this. i remember that
i used to have another option under this called 'enable write caching' or
something similar and it was also selected when performance option was
selected. however it doesn't exist now. could it be due to my user profile. i
only have 1 profile named 'owner'. also, in taskmanager in processes the
username column is empt??

please help.

should i create a new userprofile, with admin. rights??
