I have a Micro Star motherboard. I cannot load windows xp service pack
2. After loading it and restarting the computer no icons appear on the
screen after windows xp pro starts. I have been told I need to upgrade
the bios.
I have downloaded the correct bios (7142v16) for my machine. I have
been instructed to make a bootable windows floppy. I have restarted my
machine with boot.in ntdetect.com and ntldr on the floppy. However when
the A:\ prompt comes on the screen and I type in C: to get to the c
drive i get the message invalid drive specification.
How do I access the c drive so I can upgrade my bios and then see if
windows service pack 2 can be installed.

Who instructed you to make a "bootable windows floppy"?

My guess is a DOS Boot Diskette is what you needed and that could have been
done in a variety of ways - even downloading from http://www.bootdisk.com/
would be a viable option.

Now - having said that - you likely need to put the flash utility and flash
file on the diskette itself. As Windows XP (in your case and most others)
is using the NTFS file system - meaning you will not be able to access its
contents with most boot diskettes - nor should you need to in order to flash
a BIOS. In an emergency - sure - but to flash a BIOS - I cannot see the
purpose.
