I was updating my Bios when it froze. Now it won't boot up--nothing but a
blank screen. Of course, I didn't back up.

I have a Gateway lap top, M500 without a floopy drive so whatever I need to
do I need to be able to boot up from my CD drive. Gateway won't offer
assistance because its out of warranty.

I would like to just do a clean re-install of Windows XP. Please help.

Thanks, victor

You will need to order a new bios chip and hope yours is in a socket. If not
in a socket get a new mother board.
You erased the pc's brain and now you are screwed.

Until you fix your BIOS issue, you won't be able to install or boot
into any operating system. And you mean that Gateway won't offer any
"free" assistance. Here, you'll have to bite the bullet: you damaged
your machine while attempting a BIOS flash - now you'll have to pay
someone else to repair it.

What were you using to flash the bios ? The bios and the operating system
are two different things. You will need a working programmed bios chip to
get to the operating system. Ordering a chip programmed for your motherboard
and removing the old one and reinstalling the new one may be necessary. Are
you up to this ? JJ

Anyone had any experience with booting from a CD-Rom and restoring a
corrupted Bios. Check out this site:
http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=28702#28702

I took the laptop to a repair shop, but they say that the corrupted Bios
won't recognize the CD-Rom; however, according to this article it shows you
how to create a bootable disk on a CD-Rom. Look at the section "clean
Bootable CD-Rom (for BIOS Upgrade). Let me know what you think. I got
stumped on part 5.--how would I "open a command prompt, change to the BCD
folder and run 'bcd clean' to build your ISO image...."?

Any help would be appreciated. This is my friends computer and I totally
fried it. Words to the wise, "Only flash your BIOS at your own risk (and
definately don't even think about it with someone elses)!"

Thanks for your time and consideration.
