I have a machine running an Athlon 2400 which usually gives 1997Hz.
Recently it has started to drop to 1430Hz on occasions. This seems to
happen when I change an IDE drive.
Reflashing the BIOS resets the speed. This seems a drastic cure.
Any ides what could be happening and how to stop it please

TIA

Hertz - you sure?! If so, your really do have a problem! ;o) Why are you
posting this here anyway, this has nothing to do with XP, suggest you
contact your system or motherboard manufacturer.

This group is for hardware issues related to XP such as HW that doesn't work
properly when in XP.

But anyway, sounds that a possible power supply problem. Do you have MB
Monitor or simular installed? See if the voltage rails (3.3, 5 or 12) are
running under spec or you core voltage is fluctuating.

If you have any less than a VERY GOOD 350watt PS (not generic) this could be
the culprit.

FWIW,
Len
