I tried to reflash the bios on my computer, and have been having problems.
but yet the computer will boot up with UBCD4Win. would teh UBCD4Win cd work
if the bios were bad?? I think that i probably need a new bios chip, but i
am surprised that the boot cd works at all if that is true.

this is windows xp home edition. I have tried rebuilding the boot.ini file
in the recovery console. also tried fixmbr.

the problem began when i opened a bios zip file in windows. $#$#$#%
(I may end up just reinstalling, but i have a lot of stuf on this
installation, so i want to try everything else possible.)

thanks for any input and suggestions

Format a floppy in MS-DOS,double click youre BIOS update in an empty folder
like "my pictures",once all the files are extracted,go to edit, select
all,move all,
move to the floppy. You should do this after BIOS update, but if youre having
problems now, power off computer, remove battery, locate and move the boards
CMOS jumper pin from 1-2 to 2-3 for .30 seconds or so,then back to
1-2,replace
battery, start computer. You'll need to reset date, time,+ any add ons you
have..
