Having recently virus checked my computer for the first
time, the checker was very handy in finding around 12
viruses/trojan horses.

Once it had finished checking, it deleted most of the
viruses and then listed about 5 or so applications that
needed to be deleted manually.

winlogon.exe and sys.exe I remember to be 2 of these.

Not surprisingly, I can't logon to the pc now.

the logon window is stuck in a loop
ie. once I enter the password, the intro music starts, but
the screen returns to the logon prompt.

Is there any way I can rectify this blunder?

Thank you

Bobby

sys.exe is a Win9x but not a Win2000 command.

winlogon.ex_ resides on your Win2000 CD. The
command

expand \i386\winlogon.ex_ a:\winlogon.exe will
restore it to its full size.

To put it back into c:\winnt\system 32, boot your
PC with your Win2000 CD. Select "Repair" when
prompted, then select "Command Console". You
can now copy the file from A: to its correct location.

About your virus checker which you thought was
very "handy": You must have lived in fairyland.
To operate a PC without a permanently installed
and updated virus scanner is asking for trouble.
The next virus is likely to destroy your machine!

Lesson learnt,

thanks for that

Bobby
