Since you've given us basically no information about your computer or
what you did, it's impossible to get specific troubleshooting help. If
this is a sudden change, use System Restore and go back to a date when
everything worked.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

If you need more help, please see this link about what kind of
information to include in your next post:

I have XP and in file explorer created a top level folder and one under it.
Then I right clicked and created a text file, putting in filename text
until it didn't take any more. When I right clicked on the file, file
explorer crashed and wanted to send an error report. It happened again, so
I wasn't able to even delete the file. I shortened the folder name and
was then able to right click and delete the file. I don't know what would
have happened if I created the file at the top c:\ level.
I've also had directories with a space at the end, the only way I could
work with this in file explorer was delete the parent directory after
moving all the files, directories out. I've since been able to test this
in dos with mkdir "abc "\ and then rmdir "abc "\. file explorer won't do
it as far as I can tell.
