best way to save critical info

I am using vista bussiness for my bussiness I keep daily changes in a
scheduling program an bookkeeping software. Iwould like to have some kind of
redundancy and use the auto backup features of vista. what combonations
would you recommend. from what i have read raid 1 isnt an option for
vista???? daily full system backups????

You can't use Vista's backup to backup up specific files, e.g.,
"c:\myfiles\importantcrap.mdb".

You can write a cmd file (to automate the process) to back up (copy)
specific files to another drive.

You can buy (or find some freeware.. sorry, don't know what's out there) 3rd
party software that will backup based on file names or directories or
whatever.

You can burn the files to CD/DVD.

You can download Windows Home Server RC and install it on another PC and it
will backup your PC automagically. (This solution only works, obviously, if
you have a PC on which you can install WHS and have enough HD space to
dedicate to backups... that's why it's not listed as the first option,
although if you're backing up data from your business PC, and if you have
less than 11 clients [PC's], WHS may be just down your alley, so to speak.)

I have a second system that i plan on deploying as a server with two users
work stations. however it is a lot of money to upgrade these to multi user
license and keep the software on a server. can a server in a raid 1 mirror
workstation drives as well? i also need to have three laptops log on to the
server via phone lines to do hourly updates to the scheduler. I was real
disappointed to find that the new "bussiness" software, wont configure a raid
1, or if it will i cant find it. i have never had a hard drive crash however
the first one will be devestating, i can not afford the downtime.

server software: before i jump onto server 2008 (already downloaded
longhorn) are you aware of any issuse with longhorn and vista or would it be
better to revert back to 2k pro or serv2003. I had this setup before with
win2k and one laptop, but not enough use to determine if it would serve my
current needs .

my vision: 1Server- two desktops LANed, three laptops dialup (no internet
tunneling!!! yet11). after any hareware failure replace hardware and be back
up and running in less than 1 hour.

Well, that's all a little off-topic for this ng... but I guess I did open up
the can of worms, so to speak, by mentioning WHS. I can't speak to which
version of Windows Server is best for you; my focus is on workstations. I do
know that WHS offers a quasi-RAID1 ability to duplicate shared folders/files
on two separate HD's. Must admit I have no idea if you can run your
scheduler software on WHS and dial-in to the server. I know you can access
the server via http or https but don't know if that fits your model. Best to
try one of the server ng's. Maybe microsoft.public.windows.server.general or
networking...
