What's the best software to recover data as far back as 60 to 90 days? I'm
looking at a few such as: Active Undelete 5, Easy Recovery Pro 6, Search and
Recover 3. I'm hoping to recover deleted folders including home edited
video as large as 1GB.

Thanks for any help

Data that has been deleted 60-90 days previous to using "any" file recovery
program does not stand a good chance of any reasonable recovery. The chances
are extremely good that the old data has been at least partially over
written, and unless it is a text document (where partial is better than
nothing) it will be useless.

Yes as said by "Richard". It will be impossible to recover that which has
been deleted 60 to 90 days before. It is very much depends on the usage of
your computer. In these 60 to 90 days how much more data you have written and
removed from your disk. Chances will be more less if you have used your
computer a lot in these days.

Anyhow, I can tell you about a program which is "Stellar Phoenix FAT &
NTFS". A very good software. I had used it 2 times and recover my data
successfully. Size doesn't matter. Data recovery also need a good technique
to recover it. Only one suggestion, do not recover your data on the same
partition or same hard disk drive. Even do not try to install the recovery
software on same partition or same hard disk drive.

Hope for best. Let us know.

Best way recover old deleted data would be to back up on a regular
basis, and archive those backups on some type of removable media.

Of course, if it's home kiddie porn that you are trying to recover, the
feds would likely do that for you for free! ;-)

If the system has been used in the interim, the chances of recovering
the data intact are pretty remote; software recovery tools probably
won't help much. A data recovery service like www.ontrack.com or
www.drivesavers.com might be more successful but they are very expensive.

Thank you all for your replies.

I'm hopeful I'll be able to recover the data as the hard drive was barely
used in the last 2-3 months, other than for occasional surfing. Another
question: why is it recommended you install the program and recover the data
on another drive/partition?

Because when you install it might just overwrite your deleted stuff -
similarly you won't want stuff get recovered to overwrite anything waiting
to be recovered

If you've been surfing you've probably already overwritten the old files
though.

XP tends to reuse drive space from the beginning upwards - so even simple
surfing may have nibbled away at the space occupied by the deleted stuff.

Good Luck ..
