I'm wondering which of the free firewall programs seem best suited for
wireless connections? Or doesn't it make a difference which program I
use?

*wondering*

hello,

Is it a broadband type or is it a combined ADSL modem that plugs into a
phone line, or one that plugs into the back of a broadband modem?
On some models it will have a built in firewall as standard. If you're
going to use software then there are many different firewalls available, all
do much the same thing. I would use ZONE ALARM. I wouldn't bother with
Windows firewall in XP as too many spyware programs alter the registry to
make it think that programs have full permission!
Zone Alarm stops things getting IN to your PC but will also stop programs
connecting OUT.
You can also tell it to stop a program acting as a SERVER.
It's very effective and easy to use.

I use Windows firewall in XP , fully udated with SP2 etc .

My wireless router with built in firewall , is a Billion 5100w

All my spyfiles have been removed using Ad-Aware , SpyBot , Bazooka
& MS Antispyware .
Further protection is done with SpywareBlaster & SpywareGuard .

Ad-aware

SpyBot

Bazooka

MS Antispyware

SpywareBlaster

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it
from ever being installed.

SpywareGuard

Everything is OK .

Wireless LAN, I'm afraid, installed inside a laptop. I guess it would be
broadband. The only firewall is the one in XP.

Thanks for the information. I'm looking for something that might address
the specific needs of wireless LAN's, that might supplement existing
protection- like, for example, stop warbanding (is that what it's
called?), and keep people from tuning into my laptop.

As always,

Thanks for the list! My laptop isn't connected to the internet (by
choice), so my need for spyware software isn't so great, but I do agree
that having such software isn't being too careful. I just want to stop
people trying to access my files via warbanding.

Thanks,
