Hello group, I would like to know what would be the benefit of these
Sp upgrades to the Microsoft Office productivity software.
Is it really important to do such an upgrade on WinXPSP3 run PC?

Roy

In short, yes. Each SP includes many hotfixes you cannot obtain otherwise.

PS: Office 2003 has entered Extended Lifecycle Support...but only if SP3 is
installed.

thanks for your replies ..I have read the microsoft
description ...about hotfixes and vulnerabilities but how can you
translate that from the point of an ordinary users perspective.?
Some people did ask me this question a few times but never could give
them a practical answer that they could understand as worth the effort
for the upgrade..

Would be pleased to hear from users that have benefited from such
upgrade...

If you bought a new Chevy truck and 2 months later GM offered you free
upgrades to fix known-issues, would you turn 'em down?

That is not a good comparison..
A hardware upgrade can be tangible but a subtle software upgrade may
not be noticed....

Well as much as I can ,I subscribe to the dictum- if aint broke why
fix it?
What are things that are to be fixed and what tangible benefits can be
obtained from such upgrade?

Besides
I have not heard much from ordinaryusers that have upgraded their
office wares to sp1 and sp2 and profited from it....?
That is why I am asking somebody from this group that may have
alreadydone so I can hear about from him his points

Maybe not but I would probably look elswhere for my next Truck!

Odd that you would prefer a company that wouldn't fix issues that are
brought to their attention?!?!?!?!?

OK, be that way. I can tell you that Office 2003 will NOT be supported
unless SP3 is installed. And soon, the same will apply to Office 2007 SP1.

Not supported = You will not be able to install ANY critical security
updates whatsoever

Hmm .....?
I still don't notice that with my 2003 version that has never been
updated or upgraded to Sp1.
so how does it affect my use of the office2003 and 2007 for general
applications? Would it prevent me from writing a document or producing
a spreadsheet or drafting a powerpoint presentation?
If it won't, then its does not have any significant effect on my
daily MSoffice needs.....

I'll bet you don't wear your seatbelt and you removed the air bags from your
car, too.

If you don't care about your computer's security and the security of every
other computer on the internet, stick with Office 2003 Gold.

Tip: Until you install all Office 2003 Service Packs,
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate will not offer any security
updates for any of your Office 2003 applications.

Airbags and seat belt......? how does that correlate with the use of
the MSoffice? Its becoming more confusing.....?

security for using even the office application....? I still don't
get it....how important is that,,,,?
Can anybody explain to me in simple terms in terms of working
environment for that particular application.

Why? does my PC just crash after opening an office application that
was not updated.... to the Sp shit?

Roy

Where do you get this stuff?!?!?

I'd just rather go with a manufacturer that didn't rely on its customers
to field test their products for them, so that a new product wasn't
riddled with known-issues in the first place.

Most of them have worked with me directly and I have no hesitation in recommending them as intelligent, diligent, caring and creative professional. When we change our office branch then systools office upgrade application helps to export bulk ms office files into 2010 version.
