I was going to suggest Clarify to solve this problem but the Bellsnwhistles
site now says:

You might still like to look at Clarify. It works wonders with irritating
backgrounds.

This looks similar to Browster, but with Browster you only have to hover the
mouse over an icon by the link. Works with IE and Firefox. No clicking
required.
