i am having problems instaling a program called versa
check. the installation will not complete due to bde
running. how do i disable borland database engine so
that i can complete the installation or is bde essential
at all times.

By recollection (since I don't have BDE installed on this machine to
check), BDE adds a program to the Control Panel to manage it's startup.
You can also probably go into Services.msc to turn off the BDE
service. Services also available via Control Panel.
