BDE is an abbreviation for Borland Database Engine. This could be the result
of your installing a third-party application built around Borland products
such as Delphi. Typical examples would be GoldMine contact management system.

well umm i did not install anything from Borderland products. also what does
it do?

Borland produces tools to develop software and BDE is their own proprietary
database engine for storing information. BDE can be redistrubuted as part of
applications developed using their tools to simplify data storage. It's hard
to say which app is dependent on it as I don't know what apps are on your
system. There are thousands of commerical apps leveraging BDE.

I have this on my computer in my control panel. What is it? and what does it
do?

The Borland Database Engine (BDE) Administrator is a tool used to
configure Borland database applications. It tells them where to find
data files, what format those files might be in, etc. This tool is
normally installed along with any a proprietary database application
that requires it.
