Can anyone advise me please? My battery shows 90% fully charged and only 5
minutes. Is this a problem with the battery or could it be a problem with a
connection? The laptop is only 18 months old.

Many thanks

Jill

Sounds like the battery is bad. It happens. They do eventually wear
out. This may not have any affect on a modern batter, but let it run
down to zero charge, then recharge fully, then let it rundown to zero
again, and fully charge. This may "reset" it. I doubt it. But before
buying a new battery, this is what i would try. You are probably going
to have to buy a new battery.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

If you wait 5 minutes, what happens?

check with the MFG of the laptop many have battery test and exercise
programs. They may of even told you how to charge/discharge battery when
you first got the laptop to break the battery in properly. If not contact
mfg for a replacement. If you need to bring the laptop in for repair pull
your hard drive out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

batteries can become useless in as little as two years. You
might need to buy a replacement.

In recent laptop computers the battery actually actually get confused
and report full charge, incorrectly. There is a proceedure for
getting the laptop and battery in sync. Go to the manufacturer's
website and look in the support info. There should me some info there.

Followup to comp.sys.latops with laptop make and model info for a
better answer.
