I got an averatec laptop and the battery doensn't really last very long less
that one hour. anyway , I sent back the battery and ran the discharge
program and retraining program but the new battery doesnn't last either.

Anyone have any ideas on any setting in MS XP that might help the battery
last longer in whether it is in windows or in the setup when the computer
restarts???

Allot of your battery life depends on hardware. What CPU is used
in your model. Do you use and leave PCMCIA cards plugged in at
all times. How is the power management of the system setup. When
running on battery, do you keep the screen at a maximum brightness?
Many notebooks step back processor speeds to extend battery life.
Do you have on-board peripherals that you do not use disabled ?
It's hard to give a definitive answer or set of suggestions without
knowing more about the unit and your work habits.
I would go to averatec's website and check for any driver updates
for your notebook. While there read any FAQ's on your model that
might shed light on battery life. Also, do a Google search or Epinions
check and see if other owner's are having similar issues.
I would expect that a recent notebook should deliver 2.5-3 hours of
use on a full battery charge.
