Battery problems

I have a Compaq Presario 1500 Laptop and Saturday night I
unplugged the computer to watch a DVD. When I plugged it
back in, the battery said I had 2% power remaining. I
shut the computer off, hoping that it would recharge the
battery but when I restarted it the next afternoon, it
said I only had 1% power. How can I get it to recharge
and do it faster????

I could be any of (design and run experiments to test these hypotheses):

1. the battery no longer accepts a charge. it happens. replace battery.
2. the charger was not plugged in to computer or to wall plug.
3. the charger was plugged in to a line with a blown fuse and no power.
4. the charger no longer provdies power to charge. it happens. replace
charger.
