In the network setting, there is an option to repair. Is this the same thing
as releasing and renewing an IP? Thanks.

as releasing and renewing an IP? Thanks.

The Repair option renews an IP address and then does these steps to
update important information about the network:

1. Clear ARP cache
2. Clear NetBT
3. Refresh NetBT
4. Clear DNS cache
5. Register with DNS
6. Restart 802.1X authentication

It is not the same thing at all.
When you say renew/release an IP address it means that you are a DHCP client.
It just means that you want to retain your IP address which was given by
your DHCP server.

When you do a repair, means that you want to fix a problem, and there may be
several.
If you need to renew your IP address you may do something like this: On DOS
window, execute the following command "ipconfig /renew" and you're done.

To release you need to execute "ipconfig /release"
