hello,

I want to back up my info I have in outlook ( contacts
ect.). It won't let me.

I was told I could get to the files through windows
explorer, but can't locate them after several tries. I
have a cd-rw ready to go whenever I can find them , or
find out how to make copies of them otherwise.

thnx

david

The files are actually hidden. If you open windows
explorer and then click the Tools option on the main
toolbar. From the drop down menu cl;ick on Folder Option.
In the folder options window select the View tab. Look
down the list until you see the Hidden Files and Folders
section. Click on the radio button next to Show hidden
files and folders. Finally click Apply followed by OK to
exit. You should now be able to trace your outlook files.
An alternative method, and maybe easier, is to open
Outlook. Click Tools followed by Options. In the options
windows click the Mail Setup tab. In the mail setup
window click the Data Files button. The next window is
the data file window. Highlight the path to the outlook
files and click the Open folder button. When the folder
opens select all the files and the right click on a
highlighted file and select Copy from the drop down menu.
Now close down Outlook - if you don't the files will be
deemed 'in use' and will not copy. Open windows explorer
and select the directory you wish to copy the files to. I
have a seperate folder marked Outlook Personal Folders.
clcik on the directory then, if you have created one,
highlight the 'personal folder' where you want to copy
the outlook files to. Right click on the directory/folder
and select Paste from the menu. All the files should then
be pasted to the directory/folder. Once they are there
you can copy them to CD

Hope this helps
