Balloon tips

Microsoft Windows XP (SP2) is making me slightly irritated by the number and
frequency of the so-called "Balloon Tips". The reason that their presence
annoys me is that usually I wish to be able to read the information that
lies beneath them. I do realise that this is purely a cosmetic thing that
does not bother many folks but I have to say it DOES bother me.

Take for example Outlook Express (possibly the worst "offender") where it
says "Type recipients' names etc..." when you roll over the TO box - as if
it is not perfectly obvious that we should type the recipients' name(s) in
this box.

I have tried the download that is offered on Doug Knox's site called
"killballoontips.vps" (not exact title but something from my memory) that I
understand makes a change or two to the system registry. This utility has
had only very limited help for me and I have observed only minor changes
here and there.

Can anyone help me 'kill the tips"??

Thanks,

Jim

I'm not sure what Doug's script does - I don't have a copy handy... My own
page tells people to go to Kelly's site or how to do it manually though? (I
didn't even know Doug had a version else I'd have included that.)

Adding to Galen advice try this:
Try this Open the Run command and type:
regedit.exe click [OK]
On the registry eidtor locate the same HKEY:

[+]
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
While clicking or highlighting the * Advanced* SubFolder look in the
Right-Side-Pane and locate this and Right click on it and select Edit:
[ ]ShowInfoTip REG_DWORD 0x0000001 (0)
[(value 1 to Enable it) or (value 0 to Disable it that what you want)]

Hope this what you are after.
Please let us know.
