Bad variable type error - win2k, not XP

I'm getting the error message "Bad variable type", but only on win2k
systems, and not XP systems.

The program in question tries to execute a stored proc in a sql server. It
is 100% consistent. Always fails on 2k, always runs on xp. Always runs
from query analyser on 2k and xp both.

I've looked at regional settings, made sure the mdac is the latest.

Can anyone think of something about win2k that is different from xp that
would cause this?

I've worked thru all the help available in the sql server forum, which is
why I'm now asking here.
